Nivea, a long-standing skincare company has got in on the act and brought out a pure and natural range to join its other high street competitors who are all cashing in on people opting to use more natural products on their skin.

Tesco, H&M and Waitrose are just a few high street stores riding on the wave of demand for natural products. So what makes Nivea’s products stand out? Well true to form, Nivea’s products are 95% natural and organic; aloe vera, burdock and argan oil are used in the pure and natural skincare range by Nivea.

But with so many organic skincare companies offering the same and a few at the top having established a reputation for being organic skincare leaders and providing their beauty buyers with the real deal, will Nivea be in for a tough challenge.

Another Australian brand hits our shores.

Sukin promises to be different from other organic skincare companies and pledges that not only does it avoid all the chemical nasties (this is what most organic skincare companies do for the most part) but the company functions on carbon neutral, environmentally friendly principles aiming to protect the environment.

There are different schools of organic skincare thought when it comes to what you apply on your face before you go to bed.

Some would say you should keep your skin clear to breathe at night because that’s when your skin repairs and rejuvenates itself. But as long as what you put on your skin is of the purest essence, I see no harm in giving your skin a helping hand whilst you sleep, particularly if your skin is of a dry complexion.

Newcomer to the organic skincare scene in the UK, the New Zealand range Antipodes has proved to be a hit with a lot of the beauty editors.

Worthy of mention is Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream, which is a Green Beauty Bible Award winner. The message is clean skincare from the purest of sources and this is entirely believable as the ingredients are sourced from the natural environment in New Zealand.

Antipodes also have a very holistic range drawing on the ancient Indian traditions in very different bottle stylings from their main face skincare range. Nevertheless, the company which has been around for six years, prides itself on purist approach to organic skincare.

And with the beauty accolades it has already as a newcomer, Antipodes has made an impact for women (and increasingly) men who use organic skin products in their daily skincare routines.

Let’s face it, our skin becomes quite sallow and dry in the winter. With summer almost upon us, it’s time to treat ourselves to a fresh, yet luxourious body scrub that will get your skin looking smooth for lounging on the beach.

Nowadays, body scrubs fill the high street. But there’s one worthy of a mention which I discovered recently at the Organic show.

Cnnan’s body scrub has a beautiful range, just on the verge of getting its Ecocert approval. I tried their mint and cucumber body scrub, which I must say, seemed almost good to eat but you can’t. It’s wholly satisfying to know that wholesome ingredients you would normally eat, you apply on your body.  Now, that’s what I call being truly natural.

If zesty mint and cucumber is not quite your bag, then you can go for more deeper textures and smell like strawberry and vanilla.  Cnaan body scrubs are also brilliant if you’re planning to have a pamper party and you want to slip little gifts into bags for your guests.

The Cnaan range is developed by a young entrepreneur who managed to get her products developed in Israel and  are the makings of nature, based on formulas and knowledge from ancient times. The curative and medicinal qualities and the aesthetics of the natural-source ingredients are the wonder of creation. This traditional healing methods and body care secrets are transformed to suit way of life and environment of modern times.

How often do you associate your favourite MAC foundation or Dior blusher with flowers? Well for one organic cosmetic company, there’s only one philosophy and that is to wear flowers on your face.

The Zuii range comes from Australia and the company behind this pure, natural makeup range, professes you can’t get any more natural than applying the essences of flowers to your face.  Organic chamomile flowers, rose petals and jasmin flowers form the base of Zuii’s makeup range making it perfect for any sensitive skin.

At the Organic Skincare and Health show this year, London’s Olympia was a hive of activity with brand new organic skincare brands jostling alongside the older brands.

Natural Empathy, a Northumberland skincare brand founded in October 2008, which loving brands its products in British style, uses locally grown extra virgin rapeseed oil in its organic products. The founder, Phil Stuckey says “We believe that in Britain we should make things, and not simply be a shop window for other countries. By supporting British growers, we keep down our ingredient miles, understand the provenance of our ingredients better, and reduce our impact on the environment.”

A few organic newcomers on the block were showcased, once again proving that the organic skincare market continues to be a multi-million pound market despite the economic downturn.

If you’re an organic skincare fan like me, you’ll know that most of the more seasoned brands, like Dr Haushka and Jurlique, that have dominated the market for years are foreign climes where it is evident there is an abundance of natural ingredients that are carefully sourced and go into the various products we use.

However, it was inspiring to see a homegrown brand, Beautifully British, taking some pride as a natural newcomer.

I am very particular about my organic skin care regime. I cleanse my face every morning with organic cleanser, Neals Yard or Ren, use Neals Yard Frankincense toner and at the moment I’m using Organic Pharmacy’s Rose Face Cream which feels nourishing and light.

I’ve always believed that at night your skin needs to breathe; I do cleanse the gunk away from my face which builds up during the day and apply toner to my face but sometimes I leave my skin clear without any moisturiser as the skin needs to breathe at night. I apply a light orange flower oil from Neals Yard which is very good as oils are lighter and can easily be asborbed but maybe it’s just me.

The important thing is to be in tune with what your body and your skin needs.

Organic and biodynamic skincare company Jurlique has created a new travel retail exclusive set specifically for airlines serving Asia. It’s not the first time organic skincare companies have embarked into the travel market but for organic skincare fans like me this is a godsend. No need to carry precious, expensive product, these little neat items will fit smartly into your hand luggage.

If you’re a fan of Ren skincare products like I am, you’re likely to be disappointed if you use one of their products, namely the Purity Cleansing balm.  The pump on this particular product is faulty and I was a bit annoyed to find that half of the product still remains in the pouch encased within an environmentally friendly plastic bottle.

I phoned up Ren’s customer care department and the lady on the phone was very apologetic and said I was perfectly right to complain. If you are using this product and have found that the pump is faulty, you are able to take it back to the store you bought it from and get a brand new one. If you encounter any disgruntled shop assistant politely mention that they have to get in touch with their local Ren sales representative.

So it’s good news for Ren. Their products are fantastic and I particularly enjoy using them feeling reassured that I am using products free of any nasty petrochemicals.

It’s not new for celebrities to bring out their own perfume or skincare range but what’s different about Miranda Kerr is that she is planning to bring out an organic skincare range.

The Aussie model announced she was expecting the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s baby last month, just weeks after they exchanged vows in a secret ceremony.
